Profile – Susan Sale
I started teaching in 1995 at Brimrod County Primary School in Rochdale and have since taught all years groups in Primary and Secondary Schools. At Brimrod, I coordinated History, English as an additional language and Infant Mathematics. When Mrs. Sandra Hartley took over the headship in the year 2000 she invited me to be part of the Management Team because of my “good communication and people skills.” I coordinated a Maths Enhancement Project (MEP), working with Professor Burghess from Exeter Univeristy, which involved three other schools in the area. This involved attending conferences, monitoring results and undertaking research, as well as overseeing the work at the partnership schools. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and History and then took a Post Graduate Certificate in Education before accepting my first post as a year one teacher. I did begin and complete one third of Masters degree in early years education but decided to teach older children instead and went off to work in the USA for two years with fourth grade students. On my return to England, I worked in Leicester at Holmfield Primary School teaching years three and four, and acting as Science Coordinator. After that, I chose to specialize in English teaching in Secondary Schools. I have worked at Etone and Hartshill Schools in Nuneaton, with a high success rate at GCSE level. More recently, I have been involved in the tutoring process run by Warwickshire Local Education Authority and now teach children either one to one or in small groups. I have completed the necessary courses to enable me to do this successfully and keep myself updated with continuing professional development. |
