Additional Info: Over the last 25 years I have worked as a designer, illustrator and teacher.
After gaining a Higher National Diploma in Design at Watford Technical College, I started out as a graphic designer, working as a technical and medical illustrator then later returning to education to complete an Honors Degree at the London College of Printing (now University of the Arts) in interior design, specialising in retail and leisure.

I have worked for a wide range of companies since then from client companies such as Dixons Stores Group, learning the nuts and bolts of shopfitting, small creative design consultancies such as Silver and Co. Design Consultants, to giant architectural partnerships such as Atkins.

Through this I have aquired a good deal of project experience encompassing offices, shops and restaurants, through branding and identity, and care homes to airports.
As the project dictates I have undertaken a variety of roles within the design and construction industry.

I set up my own business as a freelance designer and visualiser and began to specialise in architectural illustration and was proud to be elected to join the Society of Architectural Illustrators, an international body committed to promoting excellence in the industry.

I have taught design and drawing for 7 years from Foundation to Degree level, also adult learners returning to education after a long break and I have run refresher courses for design staff in house.
I have had the opportunity to design and administer those courses which I enjoy very much.

I have a strong commitment to design education. Over time I have come to believe passionately in drawing as being at the heart of the design process and also aware that, for various reasons, the skill is becoming lost. Further, I am of the opinion that teaching by demonstration is a most effective method to impart this skill to others.

In the last 4 years teaching at the University of Teesside, I have actively pursued posts covering different levels and subject areas and it is my intention to further continue and develop my teaching career by studying for a PGCE at the earliest opportunity.
