Although I studied cell biology at UCSD, I write prolifically and have taught numerous different subjects such as public speaking, high school French, geometry and algebra. I am comfortable working with individuals and groups of students. I am also familiar with AP courses and SAT subjects.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, UCSD (2011-2012): Taught lower division and upper division cell biology (BILD1 and BICD110); lead weekly classroom sessions, problem solving sessions, and office hours; aided instructors in writing and grading exam questions; developed additional problem sets for students.

District Convention Workshops Co-Chair, UCSD Circle K (2011-2012): Managed logistical and educational programming for the California, Nevada, Hawaii district convention; trained and collaborated with workshop hosts to create interactive and informative workshops.

Peer Tutor, Leland Peer Tutoring (2004-2008): Independently scheduled and lead individual and group tutoring sessions; instructed students in a variety of subjects including writing, French and math; obtained California Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification.

Teaching Assistant, Leland High School (2007-2008): Aided instructor in the grading of English Language and Composition AP and freshman level writing assignments on topics such as literary analysis, rhetorical strategies, figurative language, argumentative writing…etc.; obtained insight into lesson planning and interactive teaching strategies.

Novice Policy Chair, Leland Speech and Debate Team (2007-2008): Trained new members in case-writing and speech delivery; authored various debate cases used in regional and league competitions; developed strong teaching and communication skills through daily interactions, ran weekly meetings and training sessions, developed worksheets and exercises from scratch to help novice debaters.

Anonymous Evaluations from Lower Division Biology (BILD1) Students:

"Best TA I've ever had at UCSD thus far. She employs a variety of
ways to promote recollection and mastery of material such as weekly review quizzes and handouts. She holds several extra office hours in lieu to midterms (both in person and online), and even goes above and beyond by writing for us ANOTHER practice midterm. I wish she could be my TA for every class!"

"Jessica always comes to discussion prepared and explains the material very well. She is a big help because she makes weekly handouts for us and encourages us to ask questions and participate. She puts in a lot of effort to make sure that we understand the material. I think Jessica is one of the best TA's I had at UCSD."
