• Conducting mock elections at general election times.

1977 - 90 Visiting lecturer at Hutton Hall, Lancashire Constabulary, Preston. Two
Lectures : 'British constitution, government and parliament' and 'An
introduction to political thought' These lectures were repeated for the
Cheshire Constabulary (at Crewe) and the Greater Manchester Constabulary
(Manchester).

1977 Teacher of English for Nord-Anglia International Ltd - English language tuition for overseas students (mainly European) at Blackpool

including the sixth form. Responsibility and achievements included

• Head of economics and teacher to A level
• Teacher of history to O level.
• Teacher of English to first and second forms. The authoress Jeanette Winterson was one of my successes – ‘Oranges are not the only fruit’ and ‘Sexing the cherry’.
• Form-teacher in all years except my first.
• Teacher responsible for the school debating society. Winners of the Accrington Chamber of Commerce debating Rose Bowl in 1972, 1973 and 1974.
• Speaker on Plato to the Classical Society.
• Organizer of trips to industry such as Mullards in Blackburn, to the law courts, to the Town Hall and to London in order to visit Parliament and meet the local MP. In addition I regularly assisted with visits to plays at Stratford-Upon-Avon, Bolton, Manchester, Blackburn and Burnley.

My main interests are writing, domestic and international politics, football, badminton, and religion - specifically Christianity and Judaism.

I became a teacher because I have always sought to convey knowledge – mainly to young people who wish to know more. Although I had many good teachers I also had many who left much to be desired. These deficiencies I have striven to avoid. Almost every topic can be simplified to an appropriate level to suit the needs of the pupil. My abiding aim has always been to stimulate interest by enthusing about my subject for enthusiasm invariably ‘rubs off’ on the pupil. Although it sounds trite I have devoted my life to teaching.
