Additional Info: Award-winning, RADA-trained, British theater, television, film and radio actress with 20 years experience in the profession.
I am a working actress primarily in theatre. I have lived all my life in London but recently moved to the USA and New York after doing An Ideal Husband at the Tony award winning Washington's Shakespeare Theater in DC. I have performed with many of the UK's leading theaters and theatre companies in London's West End, (amongst others, The Old Vic, The Criterion, St Martin's Lane, Shakespeare's Rose Theatre), and regionally, (including The Royal Shakespeare Company, English Touring Theater, Theater Clwyd, Sheffield Theater, Manchester Royal Exchange, Chichester Festival Theater, Birmingham Repertory Theater), and with such acclaimed directors from the UK as Sir Peter Hall, Terry Hands CBE, Sean Holmes, Bill Bryden, and top European directors Calixto Bieito, Peter Stein, and most recently have worked in the USA with such prestigious companies as The Washington Shakespeare Theater, The Irish Repertory Theater, Primary Stages and Theatre For A New Audience amongst others and directors Charlotte Moore, John Wooten, Arin Arbus and John Jeating. I have also done workshops and readings with The Actors' Studio, Manhattan Theater Club, Fallen Angel and Mind The Gap and through the years I have worked with many many wonderful and inspiring acting teachers and voice coaches including the great Cic Berry, Andrew Wade, Doreen Cannon, and writers like the brilliant Mike Poulton, Edward Bond, and the brilliant television writers Beth and Emma Kilcoyne. I have worked extensively in TV for the BBC, ITV, and in the US for Nickelodeon and have starred in 3 independent films.
I have a wealth of experience tutoring in the UK, both in large groups and in private one-on-one sessions, and for all levels and all ages ranging from 7 - 25. I am a vice patron of The Actor's Centre in London and an associate member of the National Youth Theater of Great Britain.
I have just begun tutoring here in New York and my first student with whom I had 10 one hour sessions, has just been offered a place at Yale School Of Drama.
I specialize in one to one sessions on audition monologues and scene study, and love to work in great detail, always starting with the text and the word but making sure the whole body is involved. I am particularly drawn to Shakespeare soliloquies and monologues and the classics and my experience has led me to believe that if you can master these you really are able to tackle anything. So many people are scared of Shakespeare but I have discovered that he is the greatest teacher of all and is there to help the actor rather than hinder…if you are scared of him, I promise you I will make you love him!
I do not adhere to one particular method but am interested in exploring what is right for "that speech and that particular person at that exact time on that specific day". Acting is not a science and I do not believe in sticking to a set of rules or a routine; our moods change by the minute each and every day, and it is impossible to budget for how we are feeling at any given moment so I feel that in the sessions it is vital to take these changes into account.
I get to the heart of the speeches and of the students' needs as they are working on them and I LOVE to watch my students grow and improve in confidence and skill and technique. And we have fun while we are doing it…it is a very serious business but it is PLAY!
I am willing to travel to you, or to have students come to me, or to hire a studio midtown.
My feeling is that if you have an instinct you can be great, and I believe I can help you channel those instincts in to something wonderful, even if at first it is all just jangling around in there with no place to go.
I so look forward to meeting my new tutees and taking you on to the next level!
Fees: $ 65.00 Dollars Per Hour
